Alden Learning Commons (24/7 Basement)

The Alden Learning Commons, located in the lower level of Farley Library, offers new and expanded technology with a cozy and collaborative learning environment. It is open 24/7 with after hours access via the South Street swipe card entrance, and includes:

  • 4 group study rooms with widescreen computers and flat-screen televisions
  • 4 diner-style group study areas with widescreen computers
  • 16 small group/individual study bays with widescreen computers
  • 4 printers and four scanners located throughout the Commons.
  • 1 black and white copier, $.10 per copy

The group study rooms are usually available on a first-come, first served basis, but may also be reserved for the current week by visiting the circulation desk at the library.

First Floor Computer Lab

  • 29 computers running both Mac OS X and Windows 7, 1 accessible to wheelchair users
  • 2 black and white GreenPrint printers
  • 1 color GreenPrint printer
  • 2 color scanners (8.5" x 11.7"), 1 accessible to wheelchair users
  • 2 black and white photocopiers, $.10 per copy
  • 1 color photocopier, $.25 per copy, exact change only
  • 3 VHS players with monitors
  • 1 DVD player with monitor (all library computers and laptops can play DVDs)
  • 3 microfilm readers

Other Library Technology

Fax Machine

The library fax machine is available for students to use at no charge. It is located in the Technical Services department on the second floor of the Library, which is open from 8a.m. - 5p.m. Monday - Friday.

Large Scanner

There is a color scanner that can handle documents up to 11.7" x 17" in the University Archives on the third floor of the Library. Visit the archives during its operating hours in order to scan large documents.

Circulating Library Technology for In-Library Use

Ask about borrowing these items for use in the Library at the Circulation Desk. A valid Wilkes ID is required.
